Diving Under the Sea with Year Fours!

Year four students focused on the shape of various sea creatures, noting how some could be recognised by only the outline, without the added details. They drew two different sea creature shapes onto glossed paper. These shapes became their stencil and they painted around the shape with acrylic paint onto their textured background.

The shape of their creatures are the positive space in their artwork. They then painted the rest of the background, the negative space, and scratched lines and shapes into the paint. The original textured paper can be seen in the shape left by the sea creature stencil.

Finally, students used paint pens to add highlights and shadows to their creatures. They also added line and shape patterns to the background in thier gorgeous under the sea creations.
