Year Five Takes to the Sky!

Year Five classes have been looking at positive and negative space. They brainstormed, with their group, different lines, colours, shapes and textures they felt represented the sky. They then created multiple textured backgrounds using theses elements of art within their design.

Students selected an aircraft image and outlined the main lines and shapes of their aircraft using chalk. They then transferred the image to black paper and outlined the chalk lines in pencil. This is a great technique of transferring an image so it looks exactly like the original.

They used multiple cutting techniques to create a silhouette outline of their aircraft (stencil) and traced this onto one of their textured backgrounds. The image of their aircraft became the positive space, or subject, of their art piece. The stencil was glued to a second textured background.
