Valued Monochromatic Perspectives!
Year 4 classes have created some stunning one-point perspective paintings using only tints, tones and shades of the one colour. They first drew their one point perspective room, where the size and angle of the lines used created the illusion that the image had depth. They then mixed tints (white added), shades (black added) and tones (grey added) to paint each section. Many found the placement of the colours had an impact on how well the illusion was created.
Magritte Chalk Pastel Eyes!
Year 5 classes have been responding to Rene Magritte's, 'Le Faux Miroir' (The False Mirror). They used their understanding of the art style, Surrealism to explain why they thought he had included the sky imagery within the iris of the lash-less eye. There were some very thoughtful responses and in depth conversations about the messages they thought Magritte was trying to convey to his audience.
Students then looked at zoomed-in images of various animal eyes. They discovered fascinating lines, shapes and colours in the iris of each creature's eye. Using chalk pastels to draw, blend and smudge, students focused on the shapes, lines and colours they could see in their chosen eye.
