Put Your Hands Together
For Our Clay Crabs!

Students in Year 3 have created these adorable clay crabs by tracing and cutting the shape of their hand. After rolling an even slab of clay, students traced around and carefully cut the clay away from their hand shape. The two hands were overlapped on top of a small bowl to create the shape of the crab body. Using clay tool the students designed patterns and texture for their crab and added eyes, claws and details using the score and slip technique.

Once the crabs had been fired in the kiln, the students added colour by painting their crabs. they used symmetry when choosing where to place the colours, creating balance in their sculptures.
