Primary and Secondary Paintings!

The Year 1’s have had a lot of messy fun in the art room. They have been exploring the colour theory. They mixed combinations of the Primary colours (blue, red & yellow) to create the Secondary colours (orange, purple & green). They then painted their own beautiful painting using all of the colours.

Warm and Cool Portraits!
The Year 2’s have been having a great time creating these interesting self-portraits. Half of their face is coloured in warm colours and the other half in cool colours. They have used water-colour paints to practise their painting technique; focusing on choice of paint brush, control and smooth strokes.

 Van Gogh Styled Portraits!
The Year 3’s have created these fantastic self-portraits using Vincent Van Gogh, Self-portrait as their inspiration. They layered multiple colours over their photograph using oil pastels. They then scratched into the layers with a pop-stick to create the wavy lines they could see in Van Gogh’s portrait.

Warhol’s Pop Art Portraits!
These fabulous Year 4 and 5 self-portraits were inspired by Andy Warhol and his Marilyn Monroe piece. They have been learning about the complementary colours and Pop Art. When used together complementary colours can be very striking and make your art work, ‘POP’!
Three of the self-portraits were coloured in each of the complementary pairs and the fourth was their own choice. Each has been coloured using water-coloured pencils which turn into paint when water is added to them.

Roy Lichtenstein Portraits!
Year 5 and 6’s classes enjoyed creating these brilliant Pop Art self-portraits. They used art works by Roy Lichtenstein who found his inspiration from 1950 cartoon strips. They carefully selected and traced particular lines within their face to create a self-portrait in this comic style. They then added colour by using a wax crayon rubbing of bubble wrap to create the Ben Day dots typical of Lichtenstein’s art works. They used body language, expressions and a final word to portray a little something about themselves within their fantastic piece.
